Kayaking photos

I had some photos taken by the lake today after the workout. Check out the scenery! I get to paddle here every day!

We descended into California and found the most BEAUTIFUL sunset. At last, our final destination: San Diego!

Day Four

I really enjoyed New Mexico

Flagstaff was probably one of my favorite parts of the drive

It was snowy and clear and there were pine trees and mountains. A girl can't ask for more.

Day Three

Today we drove through Texas! I really enjoyed it. I thought about cowboys, ate beef jerky, and played Jason Aldean's Amarillo Skies. Life was good.

Day Two

Today, Tyler and I drove to Oklahoma, and stopped at the Chesapeake Boathouse in Oklahoma City. This is where we had Olympic Trials and Nationals. I love it here! I wanted to show Tyler the beautiful boathouse, and we took some pictures of the really low river. Is this normal for winter?

(The same river in April!)

Wrapping up training camp

This was a VERY productive and important little block of intensive cardio work. It was also fun to bond with the slalom team, who train in Charlotte, NC instead of San Diego. Many of the sprinters will likely be back to LP this summer for training and racing.

As for me, I am driving back to Rochester today and packing up my car. My roadtrip to San Diego starts on Tuesday!

Ice Skating

More fun pictures from the speed skating oval in Lake Placid!

Maggie was just SO HAPPY because she'd never seen it snow big fluffy flakes like this before.

Crash

Now of course, as most of the paddlers here are new to skiing, we've had our share of crashes (myself included). But Sam Ritchie's crash definitely takes the cake. We were skiing Porter Mountain, on that long downhill fairly soon before connecting back with East Mountain. I'm not sure of the specifics (something about him getting tangled up with Dave or Taran) but he came down the hill looking like this:

INCLUDING that ridiculous grin.

Kayakers on Whiteface

Today's morning off consisted of downhill skiing at Whiteface Mountain. What a riot!!

Maggie and me

It was pretty cold and windy, but we were too busy admiring the pretty swirly clouds to care.

Me and Timmy... gondolas= sweet.

Timmy is king of the world

Sam and me taking a mid-run break to wait for people... hoping nobody crashed!

This is how Maia felt about the icy run we were doing

Lake Placid Ski Camp

Some members of the Sprint and Slalom kayak national teams are training at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY for the next week or so. This is our annual dryland training camp, and of course with the gorgeous trails at Mt. Van Hoevenburg, we have the wonderful opportunity to put in a LOT of hours on our XC skis. So far, it's been a riot because most of the paddlers have never skied before (or seen snow before!) Everyone is learning really quickly.

Happy New Year!

I spent a relaxing New Year's Eve with my parents at home. In a few hours, I am headed to Lake Placid for ski camp!
